05 Dennis Fox Jr We Are Honored and So We Give
Watch this interview on YouTubeYou know that’s like a lot of us that try to maintain ways of man dan had odds I regret people understand that if you’re honored with something that even if we’re I work as the three affiliated tribes that they say oh you’re employee now you’re going into retirement and we want to gift you with all these stuff and you take it in a good way and they gift you and everything but you as a the Indian person realized they’re honoring you and that honor that happens then means well I gotta do something I gotta take this seriously and so when I receive something and it’s not everybody but when I receive something okay I really appreciate they give me a blanket but I didn’t expect this honor so I’m gonna give this blanket to you now usually an elder lady or elder man or something and you know I appreciate what you’re doing for me but in my way I’m gonna give away because you’re our and me so I’m given that in distributing those goods or I’m gonna feed I’m gonna tell people that boy they honored me I want you all to come eat with me I’m gonna feed at my camp and we’ll feed everybody cuz it’s quite the honor that they honor me and then it gave me employee the month or whatever it was but no certs of ways and so and when you’re on the powwow committee they’ll go around and they say can we have you participate on the powwow committee and I was taught never to turn anything like that down so you say yes I hide well help you out so that means from that day forward you start gathering goods for the time then you participate at the celebration said that’s such an honor that you give to the people and I think that distribution of wealth is comes from leadership that helps develop that once you’re put into position like that you’re there to help everybody and I think that’s the understanding that native people have is that yes you can put me up there I do appreciate that I really like that and I’m going to show you I appreciate that bike doing this and helping distribute those goods and if somebody comes to your house and first time they’re visiting or something like that and you appreciate them being there that hey I got something for you I want you to take this I want to feed you I want to do this for you and that appreciation because you honored me by coming to visit me if it’s your brother sister coming to give you a heck but you know somebody you don’t know that coming to help you or visit you and you be interested in what you’re doing that’s quite the honor that they come to visit you so you feel you generosity did to give them things from your house or even give them a story they used to say that even given them a story was value that you’ve been had uncles that would say well I’m going to tell you a story but you’ve got to give me something after kind of you got to pay me for it I don’t know about that but those types of things happen
