Teachers Need Time with Carmelita Lamb
Watch this interview on YouTubeWell it’s it’s difficult for a non-native teacher to embark on that sensitive space because particularly for maybe a non-native teachers that’s working within a bie school where they feel like they may not get the story right and so that might be one of the things that would keep my teacher the I feel like one of the biggest hindrances are barriers to teachers embracing this is time to prep and so that’s where your administrators that’s where you’re up on upper level educational leaders that I work with need to recognize that I need to I need to gift my teachers that time to prepare so without that because teachers are held accountable and responsible for so much educationally socially in every other aspect the teachers are being held responsible and accountable for so many different things that gift of prep is huge and being able to see lessons actually enacted if you will and I’ve done a little bit of that where I’ve you know gotten some a small group of students teacher had students together and we’ve worked deeply on a curriculum or a unit more of a unit in history and then we’ve asked you can we come in and we’re just going to take over your classroom for an entire day and this is all we need and we’re gonna and we’re going to bring everything else we just need your students and permission to be there and then we actually do the lesson the unit there and the teacher can sit back and observe all the different strategies that are being invoked in that and then they get a sense of I can do that part and this is a part that would work for me I have the resources for that but that is a powerful motivator and it allows that teacher to sit back and actually observe her students and teaching strategies that are being done by teacher ed students and so the teacher had students work for this work on this for a number of hours and of course their students and so as instructors we can hold them to that and they end up enjoying it and coming up with all sorts of strategies to invoke all types of learning modes and it’s just it’s a wonderful thing to watch and I’ve been in that position a couple of times and I think that has been truly informative for those teachers that are worried about it they can see that okay I can do these things I can stretch this thing that took the entire day and maybe move it into a week or two weeks where and we can have designated areas in the classroom where it just stays up and running so students have a moment to go back they can go in there and they can build their timeline or they can develop their poster or they can research plants animals star systems medicines you know any number of things geology you know but in general I feel like what teachers struggle with most is time because they’re held to so many different fires
