And all the mentors that were in my life and that’s what I like to talk about mentorship is a key element it don’t cost nothing and we’re worried about money we’re worried about budget we’re worrying about curriculum and all at allit is of mentoring you teaching me something you say I’m gonna take you along what that’s how we used to do it a long time ago that’s how I believed if someone was at mentoring somehow they can learn the ways and some I always said we had it over to the government we handed over Christianity and where were we yet we were lost I was lost I mean I’m a living proof of all that you know I went to Marmon school I didn’t go to boarding school I went out to Mormon school I went to you know I was a part of the prison system they were trying to teach you this they try and keep everyone’s always trying to teach you but we never connect and you heard you asked you how do you know what is that what is that way and I think it’s just a humanist of saying I’m reaching out to you I want to help you and when we get those people involved and we reach out to them that teaches them something who in turn will teach somebody else and I believe that if we say let’s work on a mentorship program we could have mentorship in our own schools the sixth graders will be teaching the younger ones then when they go into junior high or middle school or everything cause they’re always changing things the the ninth grader could be teaching it’s a process a continuation you know there’s always mentorship does it cost nothing know you can gather data you can grab research and you just put those things in place and there they are if this curriculum is working for that student you know it’s a continuous cycle you can even for teachers coming in I was telling them but mentorship is just you know its mind is open it’s free don’t cost nothing free data free information no budget all it cost is your time that’s what mentorship is time and that’s what I believe wants to get them teachers to bring in new teachers in teach them well I know a non-native comes into a you know Native American community well I know how this person is I mean you know and they’re connecting they’re telling them and it’s not like oh you’re on your own you know and some places are like that you’re on your own and it really don’t help but once we reinstate mentorship we get to understand things there are different levels of where you want to go with that and there are disparate aspects of things I did a research paper on on the prison system and what I found out with all their studying and everything society are parallel you got Christiani over here and you got education over here because they say search and state are separate and you see that are parallel they’re going down the same road and here’s this individual that’s me yeah well I’m not catching Christian because they’re always condemned me I can’t catch up to education cuz I really don’t understand and you’re missing the mark and when you look at it who do they run with or who do they go whether it’s a gang they go with their peers to go with people where they can dissociate you know all that Sun you’re not you know we get teased you know it’s part of humor get teased or you’re trying to learn the white man’s way you know things like that or you’re trying to be a Christian or your teacher is you know and those things are kind of hindering your growth but once you find that personal relationship that will help you grow it is a big aspect spirituality is very big asked because what I’m saying what you do to people on recidivism you educate them and all you’re doing is refining him to be a better person in me and he finds well I don’t want to do it that way nor you’re not really nurturing the spirit of person so the wholeness of him is not coming to complete you only hit in one aspect of thing when alec reality is that when we are younger or when our forefathers to our for fri that you know we’re teaching us they taught the whole realm of things the spiritually of prayer preferring yourself day you start your day with prayer you end your day with prayer you hear that you know how do we reach them and you and you can’t just help the student because the family struggling because what we look at in the bottom line Native Americans they need that mentoring right now and they need to reconnect and not just education but the spiritual wholeness of the person that’s what it’s about it’s not about church and state being separate oh we can’t say god we can’t see this that’s what society says now but if we look at the world is falling apart because of that separation you know it’s not about on this or that I mean I could never be a Christian I couldn’t I could never understand you know there’s so many rules and regulations and how things are put in place same for everything and I think that’s the big part of it control and one’s trying to control you telling you what to do but when you’re being mentored you’re caught no one’s controllers are guiding you letting you fall and fall in your weakness let you fall where you don’t know and understand because when I’m being taught they always say in the end while you figure that out in the end and so I’m asking you a question wait they didn’t give me an answer that’s what the elders do you know I had one of my great mentor that was my dad and when Ben said he said well you’ll find that out when that happens again you’ll see and I said well that’s not the answer I wanted and that was crazy but yet when he was telling me those things it helped me to kind of research even more because when we do that when we’re searching were spiritual collected we’re actually going on to the seek the Bible says that seek and you shall find me you know and that’s what you’re doing it’s not just words if words are hope you reconnect with other people help you redefine who you are
