Watch this interview on YouTubeUntil they put me at boarding school six years later the year 1950 we stayed at sister school or the boarding school all through the school year until my morally that’s when the soldiers would come and shoot their guns in the cemetery and that’s that when we can go and my grandma my mother who picked me up and brought me out to my grandpa John Sherman and he’s in dealing with toluca Newport that means two and their estate on summer but never spoke a word of English because my grandpa and grandma they never spoke English so that’s all I spoke to LA I went to school and you know when I got to st.Michael’s in the fall of fifty-fifty could barely speak English and very first night the sister was coming down down the room it was one big room where he could see all the beds all little boys because he her buddy and the sister was coming down behind it’s a new operation so the little boys that understood her they got dog surprise and she came to me that was first day of school I didn’t know sign the cross or a Hail Mary or anything her father I didn’t know any first in English so I start praying in Dakota the way I heard my grandma pray and now that sister grabbed my knee my ear twisted it made me get up she said do you speak English ain’t that they were French they always used the word ain’t then they brought me to father’s office just two short weeks and on the same floor when I got in there she told father city speaking he don’t not speaking English so father put a ruler in the corner got to kneel on it when I start getting tired trying to sit on my ankle father come behind you grab my hair back in make you kneel straight up and that’s the way we were punished for talking da Kota other ways to get the ruler there to eat sober many years later 1997 my sister passed away and they had her a week at st.Michael’s and we were sitting along the wall all over the mint this was back in 97 and the door open and the father came and walking really fast I recognized that walk so and be a like an Indian I said is that he falls Julie says is that father you listen his look his stitch looks like him he said he can walking fast so he’s visiting shaking hands hugging people so I went to the bathroom washed my hair came out right at the corner just didn’t father came around the corner he’s stopped right in front of me pointing at my face I know that face I know that face I just can’t remember the name that goes with that face you think so me too I made off I was magic I said you should remember his face father he made me deal and really many times my knees are shot this is spun around to cuff I should have made up that’s gonna choke him or something but he took off so anyway that his name was father Julius and there’s other ways we got punished free at that time there was a cattle barn there was about three of them they milked their own cows for the kids we had to drink that milk and it tastes very good it is raw milk but when we got punished we had to go after school and they’ve not caught early in the morning afternoon again and we have to around with a shovel yeah guys we’re not gonna buy hat whenever the car raises her tail they’ll jump up take their pill and she’ll go number two and then we had there a big fail where that shovel then there was a brush like a broom let washed it keep that all wet and wash that called I mean and then they sat back down at that best way we got another way of getting punished you have to work
