He said growing up was that way with both my parents are my mom instilled that in us as well letting us know who you know what clan we are as she got she inherit a client from her mother I’m being hit out so and so we and we take that as well and kind of explaining that to us growing up meeting my siblings and saying this what clime we belong to but also on my dad site on the Mandan side he was he was a member of a clan there so we’re a child of that so kind of explaining that he explained a lot of that to us kind of your do’s and don’ts your rights and a lot of that stuff in and I think that’s a good foundation growing up having that so I was fortunate enough my parents instilled that and told us that and not only on that hit outside Mandan scale but also in Arikara situ we have societies that we belong to you know what positions different ones that they hold as well as so you know a lot of that site is your grandparents instilling a lot of teachings in you as well so growing up I had I had that as well so you know thinking about it now today you know trying to pass that on to your next generation my sons explaining that to them and going through that and telling them you know what was taught to me and I think that helps in the long run of life and you know it helped me this far like you know previous leg drums saying you know it’s something we carried on we didn’t question you know what you are what which one was where you go and so that was always a always a big thing and be my dad is pretty strict I think we ever questioned anything growing up so that was always a big foundation with that same with you know a lot of stuff you talk about your land your different animals different stuff where I live today is land that we inherited from my mom’s side she grew up there her parent her dad grew up there his dad grew up there so you know that’s over a century something of our family have been on that land inheritance and that but also taking care of it I think that’s a big thing with us we ranch like I said would also take care of that like you said we have different you have different stuff out there medicine’s different ways and traditions that our people have had for years that we still carry on today kind of proud of that too in a way that you know how many years later we still do that so like I said I’m fortunate enough to be able to do that to carry that on and wake up to that every morning you feel when you feel proud about it I mean I do as well you know I hope I can carry that passed that on to my children and they have that for years like he said you know different just different stuff with that you know hunting we you know you know we have the river right there that kind of a different aspect to you know from what it was before so we have all those different elements like you said and in just taking care of them that’s what we were taught as you know this slide will always take care of us you know we have to take care of it too so that’s something my dad my late father instilled in me pretty heavily
